The show takes place in the 18th century colonial complex Solar do União
which had it's own church, manor house and slaves quarters, in the old
stockrooms and is a showcase of the Candomble; the manculelê, a stick
and sword dance from the cane fields; the dance of the caboclo, an Amerindian
hunting dance; capoeira, a martial art/dance of Angolan origin and the
samba de roda, a spinning, swirling version of this exuberant national
dance. Not available on Sundays. Dinner can be included upon request.
Cachoeira

We leave the city behind and drive through the oldest farmland in Brazil.
This is the land of sugar cane and tobacco plantations, peaceful colonial
towns and busy country markets. We visit an experimental cacau plantation.
We lunch in Cachoeira, a charming colonial town in a beautiful setting
on the banks of the Paraguassu River and later taker a walking tour of
the town with it's many wood sculptors ateliers, bustling market (Wed,
Fri and Sat) and visit the Sisterhood of the Boa Morte, a sorority which
traces it's origins back to the time of slavery.

Join both tours (panoramic and Historical city tour) Historic - We start
in the modern suburb of Barra at the mouth of the Bay with its famous
lighthouse and make our way slowly by car or coach to the old historical
section of town. Panoramic - The lower city tour takes us to the quiet
waters of the Itapagipe Peninsula where the first holiday residences were
built. Now, a peaceful family district, life moves at a slower pace than
the bustling upper city. Lunch is included. On Sundays - only in the morning.

the largest and the best preserved complex colonial architecture in the
Americas. We visit the church of S. Francisco with its exuberant gold-leafed
Baroque interior and the Pelourinho Square, the heart of the old town.
This tour shows two distinct aspects of Salvador, the new and the old,
concentrating on the early expansion of the city. Optional stop at Mercado
Modelo a thriving market for local artifacts.

Visit to the Costa Pinto Museum (a fine collection of colonial furniture,
antique jewelry, clusters of gold and silvers amulets given to female
slaves). Afro Brazilian Museum (display of the history of Capoeira). Sacred
Art Museum (considered the finest museum of its kind in Brazil, having
a vast collection from the 17th to the 18th centuries).

in a new lease of nightlife to this, the largest complex of colonial architecture
in the America's. We have dinner in one of the many first class restaurants
in the area. After dinner we will stroll the busy streets where many of
the bars offer live music. Busiest on Tuesdays and weekends.

Schooner
cruise w/lunch

After our transfer from the hotel, we board a schooner and cruise to two
of the 36 islands in this sparkling bay. First stop is at Frades Island
with time to relax in the sun or swim in the warm waters. We re-board
the boat for the short crossing to the larger Itaparica Island for lunch.
After lunch more time to relax on the beach or an optional visit to the
colonial town of Itaparica before returning to the boat for return crossing
to Salvador.
