Portillo
The
Portillo experience is different that any other ski
resort you will be able to visit in our country. There is no neighbouring
town, that is to say Portillo is totally self-contained - much like
a cruise ship nestled in the magnificent Andean peaks, allowing
you to put logistical worries on hold for you to relax, knowing
you are in excellent hands in this all-inclusive resort.
With a remarkable location - only 2 hours northeast of Santiago,
capital of our country, and just 100 miles from Santiago International
Airport - The splendid drive from Santiago is very scenic; a beautiful
post card in front your eyes.
Portillo is not just for skiing or snowboarding, socializing and
relaxing; it is also for renovating and restoring the body and mind
in a natural enviroment that is nothing less than spectacular! You
will discover that the ride to Portillo has been described as "being
set in a postcard". While in route, you can see vineyards and
small towns, however, the end of the journey is the most exciting;
when you will be able to experience the majestic Andean and Mt.
Aconcagua.
With a first-rate snow, Portillo cater to skiers and snowboarders
of all abilities. 80% of the terrain s carefully grooned on a daily
basis, and the most difficult terrain is natural snow pack. Expert
skiers have access to vast and challenging areas, steep terrain
and exhilarating experiences.
Portillo features a variety of lifts, including 3 quads chairs,
1 triple and double chair, 5 Poma surface and the unique 4 va et
vient lifts - 14 lifts altogether. The Va et Vient (French for Come and Go) lifts
are unique in their kind pulleys that are screwed into the mountain
at the top of Roca Jack, Condor, Las Vizcachas and El Caracara.
Five skiers at once are pulled up the hill while "sitting"
side-by-side on discs that are suspended from a bar. It's a little
like waterskiing uphill, and it is simple to use after you've given
it a go.
