Day 1 - Managua
Complete culture and history tour of the capital. Lodging at Hotel
Seminole Plaza in Managua's restaurant district.
Day 2 - Managua / Leon Viejo / Leon
History and culture tour of UNESCO site of León Viejo and transfer
to León. Lodging at Hotel El Convento.
Day 3 - Leon / Subtiava
Cultural tour of León and meeting with local artists, historians
and Indian leaders in the indigenous sector of Subtiava, León. Lodging
at El Convento.
Day 4 - Leon / Selva Negra
Transfer to Matagalpa for a brief tour of this highland capital
and home of FSLN party founder Carlos Fonseca. Transfer to the organic
coffee hacienda of Selva Negra. Meeting with local historian. Lodging
in private cabin.
Day 5 - Selva Negra / San Rafael del Norte / Selva Negra
Visit to Jinotega north of Selva Negra, birthplace of the contra
war and then the highland village of San Rafael del Norte, home of August
Cesar Sandino's rebel base, his wife and his wedding as well as a museum
in his honor. San Rafael has a unique church, Franciscan monks and an
authentic cowboy population. Return south to the cloud forest reserve
and organic coffee hacienda of Selva Negra.
Day 6 - Selva Negra / Ciudad Dario / Masaya / Granada
Transfer south to Masaya and Granada with a stop in Ciudad Darío
at the birthplace of the great poet, Nicaragua's supreme national hero.
Visit to the restored 19th century artisan market in Masaya. Lodging
in Jr. Suite at the Hotel La Gran Francia, just off central park in
Granada.
Day 7 - Granada / Managua
Transfer to airport for flight home.
